TRIBENI WALDORF SCHOOL, DHAKA
The Waldorf Initiative Bangladesh is a group of
interested teachers, parents and young people, committed to bringing Waldorf
education to Bangladesh. This has already begun with the opening of the Tribeni
Kindergarten in Gandaria, Dhaka. In the long term the Initiative plans on
expanding the school to include classes up to class 8.
The curriculum will offer
children a modern education following an international curriculum, while at the
same time rooting them firmly in their own culture. It will
address the varied religious
backgrounds: Islamic, Hinduistic, Buddhist and Christian; Bangladesh’s rich
cultural heritage in literature, dance and musical streams (folk music and
Tagore, classical Islamic music and Indian classical dance and music), its specific
geographical features (Delta of the rivers Ganges and Brahmaputra) and political
history (Colonialism, war of independence). Therefore the medium of instruction
will be Bengali, but with a strong emphasis on the English language, instead of
introducing a third foreign language as is usually done in Waldorf schools.
“The challenge in Education is no longer to ask what a person needs to know or
be able to do in order to fit into the existing social order, rather we must
pose the question, what lives within each human being and how can this evolve in
such a way,
so that
the new qualities
of each emergent new generation can flow into and change the existing social
conditions. The new generation should not just be made into what the present
society wants them to be.”
